Let’s Join Earth Hour 2012

It’s been years that our household has been participating in Earth Hour, where we close our lights off (but not totally hehe- need to leave a light at the backyard) for an hour. In that way, we can join millions of people around the globe in trying to save some energy even just for an hour.

This year Earth Hour Philippines will be on March 31, 2012, Saturday from 8:30-9:30 pm. I’m encouraging you to participate in this world wide effort with a good cause.

Here’s the official video of the Earth Hour 2012. You can also visit

Classic and Sophisticated

Every time I see our living room sofa, I can’t help but to feel and get frustrated. Honestly, it’s old and worn out already because of many years use. My parents bought it at the time when we constructed our house in the middle of 80’s and it was not yet replaced since then. It was just re-upholstered in the late 90’s with a new cover and it was like that up to now.

After the re-painting done over the last week, I told mom that I wanted to buy a new sofa for us if not this year but soon. I may not afford the Horchow furniture collection, which is classic and sophisticated but I’ll try to get something similar and that my budget can afford. It’s on my wish list now and all I need to do is to save, save, save so I can buy that in the future.

I guess our house deserves something new (furniture and all) and I’ll do my best to get it.

Getting into Sports

I’ve never been a sports-minded person. Although I competed in the 100 meter dash in track and field event in my highschool days, which I have won, that only reason I joined was we have no representative in that event hahaha. After that, no more sports for me. I don’t know, I guess my ectomorph body is just too fragile for sports.

I have a niece who loves sports and she played soccer and track and field and has become a representative of her highschool. She excels in sports and I just hope she’d continue it too.

I’m in admiration for those that love sports, not only they can become physically fit but they get to learn more about discipline and the spirit of camaraderie among fellow players. For those that compete on various competitions where they can bring sport trophies and honor not just to themselves but also for their organization, town and even for their country, I salute them! I can just imagine all the efforts and sacrifices that they put in their trainings.

Resolve Tax Issues With Proper Guidance From Tax Attorneys

?At each major life event, Americans face difficult tax questions that cause confusion and eventually stress. Events such as getting married, giving birth to a child, purchasing home, or mourning over a death of a loved one are struggles in their own right; but it is important to understand that each may have an unexpected tax implication.

For most tax questions, you would consult an accountant or tax return preparer. But when difficult situations arise, consulting a tax attorney would be far more helpful.

Filing an Estate Tax

If you were the beneficiary of a large estate, you might be required to file an estate tax return and pay taxes on the fair market value of the money or property you inherited. IRS form 706 and Publication 950 can help you determine whether this rule applies to you. If so, you should consult a tax attorney before making any decisions.

The tax attorney may also be helpful to you in establishing your own estate for your beneficiaries.

Starting Your Own Business

The U.S. economy may be back on upswing, but many Americans are still dealing with high unemployment rates and uncertain futures. This has led to more professionals venturing into business for themselves.

Being your own boss is liberating, but it is also risky if you do not have all the information you need to . That is why consulting a tax attorney before deciding on the structure is very important.

Your tax attorney can help you choose between incorporating your business, setting up a limited-liability corporation, or remaining as a simple sole proprietor. Your risk of personal liability and plans to raise future capital will feature heavily in the decision, and a tax attorney can help you uncover any other issues. He may also be helpful in scrutinizing contracts, especially if you plan to do business overseas.

Balancing our Online Life

A good read that I have today is about beating information addiction. We all know that almost all people are online 24/7 now. I have seen quite a lot of people who can’t imagine their lives without the internet or without their computers and mobile phones. It’s really a digital age now as we can already do almost all things online without getting out of our house. From simple paying bills, to transferring funds thought online banking, online shopping, you can even do your grocery online too if you have no time. Life has changed so much these days.

We check our mails and other messages upon waking up in the morning and I’m guilty of that. While having my breakfast, my phone is with me already while I check my online stuff.  Yay, I’ve been beaten by the online bug hehe and I’m sure I’m not alone.

I think we need to slow down few hours everyday so we can focus on other things aside form our online world. I’m also afraid that a lot of kids  are drawn to too much online games that sometimes they neglect their studies already. They don’t even know how to play games outside of their home. If technology has so many advantages it also has disadvantages that goes along with it so we need to balance our life.

An Inspiration to Others

I always love watching shows that can inspire me and give hope and lessons not just to me but to all people that watches that show. QTV 11 has so many shows like that and if I catch them on TV when I’m free, I’m always glued to watch that show.

One particular episode that I will not forget is about those blind people trying to fit in the society. At first, you’d think that they are too “kawawa” in the society for they don’t have eyes to see and that they always need assistance wherever they go but little did we know that there are those that blind people that can do almost all the things that we normal people can do.

They also have special school that they can enroll where they can learn how to read, write and can mingle with other blind people. It was heartwarming to see them so dedicated and so alive in wanting to learn and they are even more optimistic than others. They are inspiration to others because despite they disabilities they know how to be optimistic and know how to learn to do things on their way.

5 Do's and Don'ts in Searching for a New Flat

There are lots of mistakes you can make when searching for a new flat. Keep the following list of Do’s and Don’ts in mind when renting a new apartment.

1. Don’t Go Over Your Budget

You’re always going to want more of something when you are looking at Greensboro apartments, whether it is more space, a better layout, or something a little more updated. The hard part is deciding which things are the most important to you and are actually realistic for your budget. It’s important to have a price in mind before looking for a new apartment—that way you don’t look at things you can’t afford.

2. Do Negotiate the Price

Just because the rent of an apartment is listed for a certain price does not mean that there is no wiggle room. You may be able to negotiate a better rate. Sometimes the landlord may also be willing to throw in incentives to get you to move in, such as a discount on the first month’s rent. You’ll never know what discounts you can get without asking.

Giving a Smile to Someone's Face

A friend of ours was hospitalized for a minor stroke and it was so sad to see her in a not so good condition. She's been a little obese for a long time now and that contributed to her unhealthy lifestyle and bad eating habits. She's not into healthy eating and abusing her body is not uncommon and I guess her body is just fed up with all her doings. I'm sure she'll learn from her mistake and will carry a new lifestyle now. Her doctor gave her a long list of things to avoid and do and she's been vowing not to go back on her old routine anymore now that she experienced stroke. For few days she can't speak and can move her arms a bit but with the help of her family, she managed to gain back her liveliness but not fully recovered.

Our presence and of course the gift basket that we have gave a smile on her face and I'm sure she'll recover fast as long as she'll heed all the advices from her doctor. Medicines, healthy eating, love of her family/friends, and of course prayers will greatly help her.

Which Custom Packaging Is Best For Shipping Various Items?

The various kinds of items that are often shipped and the custom packaging that is best for each of them.

There are many instances when you might need to ship some items because of business reasons or even for personal reasons. Nowadays, it is perfectly safe to send almost any item through freight shipping companies. If the company offers custom packaging and you know that the company is reliable and trustworthy, then it might be a good idea to let them package your items for you before available of their freight shipping.

On the other hand, you might still want to package the items on your own if you want to be absolutely sure of how it will be handled. However, it is important to know how to properly pack various items to ensure that it will be safe and well protected during transit. How you pack a particular item depends on what it is and its material. Below are some of the recommended packaging methods for various items.

· Glass. If you plan to have glass items shipped, you will need a lot of bubble wrap. For drinking glasses, wine glasses, goblets, cups, and mugs, it is best if you can find a box with divisions inside. If not, any kind of box will suffice. The first thing you need to do is to wrap each glass item in newsprint. To be safer, wrap the item in a second layer of newsprint and make sure that every surface on the inside of the glass item is also lined with newsprint. If you have several glass items of varying sizes, you can nest them after double wrapping each of them in newsprint. This means that you put smaller glass items inside bigger ones but do this with a maximum of four glass items only. Make sure to wrap the whole nested bundle into two sheets of newsprint and then wrap it in a sheet of bubble wrap. Afterwards, place the whole bundle into a box, making sure to put additional crumpled newsprint or bubble wrap inside the remaining spaces in the box.

· Irregularly shaped items. It is quite easy to wrap regular shaped items in a sheet of bubble wrap. The challenge is in doing the same for irregularly shaped items. The first thing you need to do is to check if the item can be disassembled. Once broken down into its parts, it will be easier to cover each part in bubble wrap and then fitting them in an appropriately sized box. If the item cannot be disassembled, the best way to pack it is still to find a box that can hold the said item. Another option is to cover the item in bubble wrap and then placed in a box, making sure that you have enough newsprint and extra bubble wrap for the small spaces left inside the box.

Another Reason to See the Doctor Again

Mom's health is kinda so-so lately and it's kinda bothering. I heard her cough few times the other day and I'm praying that is only due to some food or lack of water. We had repainting done about 2 weeks ago and the smell of the paint is unbearable as well. I've been telling mom to go out of the house so she can't smell it directly. She's been a little stubborn and I guess her coughing is due to that. Oh well, thankfully I didn't her her cough today or else we have another reason to see her doctor again.

Actually her surgery on gallstones has been moved few times already and I bet she hates being admitted at the hospital and see her doctor and nurse with the medication cart in tow. I’m just wishing her good health bec. she’s already 79.

Saving Money while Shopping Online with Coupons

These days, economy is not that good so we expect a lot of people tightening their belts just to make both ends meet. Those that are shopping endlessly for things that they don’t really need have realized that they only need to shop for things that are only necessary and urgent. I’m sure other shoppers who just shop for the sake of shopping, those that don’t really give much thought while their credit cards are being swipe in the counters are also feeling that money are tough at times, and realized that they need to save too. I’m not saying that you must not shop but you need to prioritize and look for items that are on sale to save.

There’s no doubt that shopping can be fun especially if you have the money to splurge. I personally love shopping. In fact, right now, I’m thinking of shopping for there are 3-day sale at many malls here in our area. Shopping while there’s a sale can save me much because instead of getting the item/s that I want at their regular price, I can get it less than 30-50% during sale days. I usually wait for the sale period of some malls and that’s when I’ll schedule my shopping. On ordinary days, I go look for items that I want. I try it on or scrutinize it so when the sale comes, I’ll just grab the item immediately if it’s still available on sale and head towards the counter.

Another good way of shopping is doing it online. Almost all stores already have their websites so purchasing their items can be easy and fast as well. Stores often have their galleries of products where shoppers can browse by item, brands, or even prices. Online shopping can be a lot of fun too because not only at local stores where you can get discounts but online as well. Just be resourceful in finding vouchers or discount coupons and you’ll be rocking online shopping. Shopping online can also save us time, gas and of course hassle of going out.

One of the most popular shopping places is Macy’s. Why not? It offers wide array of items both for men and women. From handbags, cosmetics, clothing, home stuff to jewelry items, there’s anything for everybody. Using Macy’s coupon codes just like what Frugal Dad is doing can save us a lot on various items. You’ll be amaze to know that you can get online discounts at 50- 75% off or with free shipping. Just imagine all the savings that you can get especially when you can buy by bulk.

Home Project: Re-painting the House

My mini house renovation just started today and I'm actually excited about it. It's been how many years already since my mom had our house re-painted and this year I told my mom that I'll be the one to shoulder the expenses on labor and materials. Of course, mom was very happy knowing that so immediately called our workers to do the job and like what I said it started today. My bedroom was almost finished today and I guess by tomorrow morning, we all can return my bed and other stuff.

Our house is a mess right now due to the work and I just hope that it will not take more than 1 week to have our house re-painted so I can redecorate once again. Since my mom and I are making our house more neat and presentable, I’m also contemplating of getting a new living room set and probably an outdoor dining set too. Hmmm.. let’s see if my budget will be enough for that.

Kony 2012

This mini-film has been circulating in Facebook and twitter and I thought of sharing this here at my blog. We can make a difference by sharing this to the world and end JOSEPH KONY's criminsal works.
Joseph Kony is one of the world’s worst war criminals and I support the international effort to arrest him, disarm the lRa and bring the child soldiers home.

Watch this video to learn more about KONY 2012 and Invisible Children.

I admired the goal of Kony 2012 campaign for it wants the world to unite to see JOSEPH KONY arrested and prosecuted for his crimes against humanity. I hope he'll be put into jail.

What is Currency Trading?

In the world of investment, there are tons of different asset classes that an individual can theoretically trade and profit from. However, one of the least understood among these asset classes is the currency or Forex market. Through this market, individuals and other entities around the world trade various currencies, almost all the time. Using high levels of leverage, massive amounts of money are exchanged on an ongoing basis.

Currency is Fluid

There is a great deal of fluidity in the currency exchange. When you are doing Forex currency trading online with UFXmarkets, you have the potential to profit a lot from this fluidity. For the most part, currencies are not based on anything solid or tangible, with no world currencies being based on hard assets like gold or silver anymore. This fluid value allows them all to be traded.

A currency can literally be worth any amount of any other currency. While many currencies are compared against the US dollar, one can theoretically trade any two currencies against one another. How many Thai Baht is a Great British Pound worth? However many pounds you can get for your baht, of course.

Driving on her Own

I’m just so happy and thrilled to know that my niece is driving already. She’s already 17 and turning 18 this July and her parents bought her a car. Of course, she had driving lessons first for it’s very strict in Australia before she can even get her learners or new driver’s license she still needs to take the exams. Right now, I think she’s a P-plater and she can drive on her own though there are times when her parents need to be with when she drives for more support, advice and instructions. I guess you know how 1st-time drivers are on the road.

Now that she has her own car, I hope she’ll be more responsible in taking care of it and of course she needs to be careful while on the road. Owning a car comes with a responsibility and I’m sure her parents also got her car insurance for her protection. Actually, getting a car insurance is quite fast these days. You can even a quote in less than 2 mins if you're in the US using website.

With her ability to drive now, her parents will be spared from sending and fetching her to and from her dance rehearsals and part-time work. I just hope she’ll not break the trust that her parents gave her.
