Disaster Preparedness Tips to Practice Anywhere

Preparedness is the name of the game. Whenever something bad happens, you want to be able to respond to the situation appropriately. But you won't be able to do that if you've got no idea how to prep. Let's fix that by going over three disaster preparedness tips to practice anywhere that can give you a leg up in the face of danger.

1. Prepare Ahead of Time
Yes, this is an obvious point to make. No, that doesn't stop people from not following it. While it might sound like the most basic part of preparedness is to be prepared, you'd be surprised at just how many will neglect to stock up on supplies or grab their gear until things have already started going down. Take this as

2. Assess Your Needs Being prepared means understanding what you need and when you might need it. For instance, a parachute is a great thing to have...if you're in the air. Unless you believe your house is going to be transported hundreds of feet into the air spontaneously, it would just be taking up space. Follow this train of thought as you build up a surplus and grab supplies. Considering most people don't have unlimited resources, making these choices early on will often free you up to store more important things as opposed to a bunch of disparate items that may come in handy in very specific situations.

3. Have Things on the Go
Disaster can strike anywhere at any time, so if you're serious about being prepared, you need to have some measure of supplies with you at all times. Extra food, water, blankets, flashlights, and similar items are good to keep in your car, for example. If you carry a firearm, concealed carry holsters for men are a nice investment. While there's little reason to have a full arsenal and a year's worth of supplies on your person at any given time, keeping certain essentials like this within reach is simply good forethought.

While disasters are always bad news, they won't be nearly as bad as they could be if you follow these three steps to prepare.

Keep Mosquitoes Away from Your Pond

If you have a pond on your property, it's a feature that can really make it more attractive. It can be your favorite place where you can go out on the boat, toss in a line, or sit back and enjoy the view. The last thing you need is the nuisance of mosquitoes to ruin your peace and quiet. Mosquitoes are more than a pesky nuisance. They can lead to serious diseases. They can also be a blemish on your property. You need mosquito pond treatment to take care of your problem.

The Sooner You Get a Handle on Your Mosquito Population, the Better
Eliminating mosquitoes is tough. They breed in water, especially water that is stagnant. Before mosquitoes are buzzing in your ear, they are larvae. Larvae survive at the bottom of your pond. It's the perfect place for them to thrive, making it extremely difficult to get rid of your problem. However, it is possible to manage the problem. You should turn to experts when you want to eliminate mosquitoes surrounding your pond.

Your pond treatment may include the addition of a bacteria that is deadly for mosquitoes while it will not hurt anything else. You can also have your pond stocked with minnows and other fish that will cut down your mosquito population. When you are proactive, you will be able to make significant headway in cutting back your mosquito population.

Take Preventative Measures to Keep Your Mosquitoes from Developing
Because mosquitoes breed best in stagnant water, consider having an aerating fountain installed in your pond to get your water moving. Once your water is circulating, the mosquitoes won't be laying eggs in your pond anymore. No more eggs mean no more larvae. You can tell your mosquitoes to buzz off. Imagine enjoying an evening by your pond without interruptions from bothersome bugs. Experts in water treatment can help you to take control before mosquitoes ruin the atmosphere around your pond. It simply takes the right approach to make those pesky insects go away.

Compliance and the Car-wash Blues

When it comes to the car wash business, the problems that keeps owners up at night concern compliance and regulations. Both business and environmental regulation in this industry abound, but the bottom line is the safety and efficiency of the operation. The car-wash business is evergreen. Cars are not going away any time in the future, so the best thing to do is get the ducks in order.

Tackle the Biggest Hassle
Sometimes, the biggest hassle is finding a maintenance and repair service that's both responsive and experienced enough to take the weight off your shoulders. To start with, repairs and system upgrades are needed, and services could include construction of the buildings. With that much going on, it's easy to understand the value of car wash repair services to the car-wash operation. It's important to consider a maintenance service that can do it at all hours of the day.

Sometimes, this means engaging the services of a company that is sufficiently large enough to handle every problem that comes up. Such outfits have service personnel available nearby. They have the latest technology to help with diagnosis and communications. They have a warehouse full of parts.

What a Good Service Can Do With Your Regulation Requirements
When you get state-of-the-art technology with knowledgeable technicians, you should also get plenty of input and advice about meeting compliance standards. They make it their business to understand regulations. Once the maintenance or repair is done, you still need someone who can test it and keep it in compliance. The service you want should be able to provide that too.

Compliance and the Environment
The compliance and regulation alone can seem daunting. Who would have believed that a car-wash operation would build a water treatment facility to safely dispose of the dirty, soapy water? On the plus side, your compliance with such regulations can be used as a selling point when pitching your service to the public. If you can say that you use environmentally safe, organic cleaning solutions or have alternative cleaning processes like steam cleaning to protect the environment, it can only help your image.

Decluttering is Refreshing

As you all know we had a mini home make-over this month and re-painting of the whole house made us clean declutter our house. It was really so hard to almost empty a room with all our stuff, putting them on boxes or big plastic bags. It was so dusty and throwing some things are really hard to do.

As promised I wanted a new space in my room, so I decided to throw away lots of my stuff that I have accumulated all those years. It was hard at 1st but it was refreshing and liberating as well. I want less stuff but I hope I can keep up with it because I have the tendency to hoard things haha…

Anyway, I still have some things to throw and organize and I’m not done yet. I hope by Holy Week or so I can do that or else my plans are fail.

Finding a Reliable Flooring Company for Your Home

Your home is not only a piece of investment but the place where your family makes lasting memories. It is only important to keep it in good condition and make sure that it still provides a safe and warm environment for you and your kids. If you are planning to build a dream home soon or thinking that it’s time to give your current one a makeover, the flooring is always an important thing to consider.

Often the most neglected yet most used part of the house, the flooring can be easily subjected to regular wear and tear and if matters are not addressed right away, it can lead to more damages. Consider hiring a professional flooring company to do the work for you since it can be time consuming, may require tools and special skills. In finding a reliable flooring company, make sure that they offer a variety of flooring services and that each is backed with a good track record when it comes to delivery or performance.

Since flooring is an unusual topic for most homeowners, do not hesitate to ask questions and a good company should provide you with the right answers. Learn about the pros and cons of the different types of flooring and ask for their expert opinion on the one that is right for your home. Check the company’s performance record and read the feedback and comments from past clients.

Do not stick to just one; ask around and compare quotes from various flooring companies and carefully study their offers especially when it comes to warranties. Companies differ in their warranty offers but go for the one that can provide you with protection for the years to come. Do not rush in making a decision, flooring companies should be able to provide you quality service that is right within your budget.

Choosing the Right Coverlets for Your Baby’s Room

Coverlets are primarily used decoratively - as a lightweight material that acts as a bedspread. When looking for this bedding accessory, it is important to know exactly what you want. If you are looking for heavier bedspreads, quilts would be a better choice. However, these are light enough to cover a bed in the summer. Baby bedding not only includes a wide range of linens and blankets, but also includes baby quilts as well, an important component to any child's comfort.

clip_image001

When choosing bedding for a baby, warmth and durability remain a number one concern. Children, unlike adults, need more warmth. In this case, quilted coverlets may be the way to go. They contain a layer of cotton batting in the middle, which keeps them light, yet are still warm enough for the little ones. Another concern when choosing bedding is the color and design. Baby boy bedding, for instance, includes bedding in blues, greens and reds. Designs vary from little cars and trucks to baseballs or bugs. Little girl’s bedding includes more pinks, purples and yellows with floral, butterfly or princess designs.

Choosing coverlets for babies does not have to be a stressful choice. The options may be limitless, but it should be an enjoyable experience. You might want to consider matching the bedding to the rest of the room's decor, or perhaps you want to choose baby bedding based on what they are made of, which range from wool and cotton to linen and silk. Each has a different feel and weight. Whatever your choice is, have fun with it!

Making Your Life More Zen

Do you ever look at your life and your home and feel that your possessions are possessing you? Do you feel that your life is too hectic? Everyone wants a relaxing and peaceful life, but you don't have to turn to sportsbook to achieve financial security and build your own meditation room. You just need to concentrate on being more peaceful, being more Zen.

If you want to be more Zen, you first have to de-clutter your life. Take a look around your house or apartment; is it full of material things? Chances are you don't even use half of them on a regular basis. Well, it's time to get rid of some of them! If an item doesn't make your life better or help you achieve personal peace, then maybe it's time to put it out on the curb. When you start to lighten your load and create surroundings that are clean, neat, and peaceful, you'll be closer to achieving Zen.

Once you've gotten rid of a bunch of stuff, it's time to start collecting the right kind of things: experiences. Instead of saving for the next big TV or couch, maybe it's time to start concentrating on collecting experiences instead of more possessions. In the end, your experiences are going to make you much happier than anything you buy to keep up with the Joneses. Instead of installing that new cappuccino machine, try planning a trip with someone your love. Try something new and unexpected. You might like it.

Finally, spend more time doing the things you love and less time doing the things you don't. If you can spend each day in pursuit of something that makes you happy, who cares how much money you have or how big your house is? Spend more time on the things that make you happy, and you'll be a happier person -- more Zen.

How To Clean And Take Care Of Military Backpacks

Some tips to help you clean and take care of your military backpacks.

Military, air force, and police personnel almost always require specialized uniforms, gears, and accessories. Because of the applications of these items, they are expected to be strong and durable. Kellac.com offers a wide selection of military, air force, and police-related items such as army uniforms, camo uniforms, multicam uniforms, ripstop abu, tactical clothing, sage ABU boots, backpacks, bags, work wear, and many more.

Among the most important and most used accessory of many military personnel are military backpacks. Although these backpacks are also often used by other people for regular use, they are specifically designed to accommodate the needs of military personnel. These military backpacks come with a host of various features that make them functional and versatile.

Military backpacks are generally designed to be stronger and more durable than regular backpacks because of the demands of the tasks that are often asked of military men. Despite their strength and durability, it is imperative that you know how to properly clean and take care of your military backpack so that you will be able to enjoy its use for a long time. Below are some tips to help you clean and take care of your military backpack.

· Clean regularly. Whether you are using your military backpack for actual military use or just for regular everyday use, you must remember to clean it regularly. Wash your military backpack immediately after a particularly demanding excursion especially if it involves heavy dirt and grime. You may use a nylon brush to scrub away stubborn stains and dirt. While water may be enough for some light cleaning, you may want to use laundry detergent dissolved in water to remove heavier dirt and smells. Remember not to postpone cleaning your backpack if it has been subjected to heavy use.

· Clean removable separately. Many military backpacks have parts that are removable or detachable. Some examples of these are pockets and straps. Before cleaning your military backpack, make sure that you remove or detach all of these parts. This includes making sure that the backpack and all its compartments are totally empty. Once you have removed them, you may proceed to cleaning and drying them separately.

· Dry completely. If you washed your military backpack, make sure that you have dried it completely before using it or putting the parts back together. It is best to let the backpack and its parts dry completely by letting it stay outdoors in the sun.

· Have minor damages repaired. It is best to immediately address any minor damages to your military backpack. Whether you want to repair it yourself or have it repaired by a professional, what is important is that the repair is done as soon as possible. Immediate attention will prevent the worsening of any damages. For backpacks that have acquired bigger damages, make sure to use them for lighter applications to prevent additional stress and damages to your backpack.

· Read the label. Before doing anything to your military backpack, make sure to read its label correctly for any specific wash and care instructions.

Spring Cleaning & Organizing Tips to Get Your Home in Shape

As the kids take a break from school, parents can use this opportunity as they take a break too from their busy schedule, to do a major spring-cleaning. Most consider this as a very daunting task, but Spring Cleaning can be broken down to smaller tasks to make it simpler and easier.

As spring sets it, households starts to open up their houses and windows to let the sunshine in and end their hibernation that they have been doing all winter. Spring signifies new life in full color as the flowers start to bloom, butterflies flutter their wings again and more so wouldn’t it be nice to reflect the nature’s beauty into our homes by doing some cleaning and organization?

Here are a few tips to make Spring Cleaning a breeze:

1. Make a Plan. Before you start with the tasks at hand, it would be nice to have a game plan first. Make a list of all the things that you want to accomplish, starting with the most important down to the least priority, to make sure that you will not forget anything. Then based on the list, make a schedule and put it on your calendar so you will stick to it. You don’t have to clean the whole house in just one day so spread the tasks in different days to give yourself a break too.

2. Prepare all the cleaning tools. Make sure that you have all the cleaning tools needed to do the job. Put them together in one area so you don’t have to stop to look for them as you are in the middle of your cleaning. This will eliminate distractions and will allow you to work continuously if you have all the equipments and tools you need to finish the task.

3. Start from the top rooms and work your way to the bottom and tackle one room at a time. Concentrating in one area at a time lets you concentrate and clean the room more effectively. This will also let you finish the chores faster instead of multitasking. Start also with areas that are difficult to clean like the bathrooms so you still have the full energy as you do the difficult tasks. And make sure that you don’t leave the room and move to another one until you are done. Otherwise, you will just be left with a lot of unclean rooms at the end of the day.

4. Do a major cleaning. Big tasks that can be done includes carpet and upholstery cleaning; cleaning of air conditioner, electric fan, lamps, light fixtures, etc; cleaning of kitchen cabinets and other furniture and more. Once you are done doing a deep cleaning then you can just maintain the cleanliness by doing daily or weekly tasks of vacuuming and dusting.

5. Purge. If you haven’t used some items for a long time now, then it means that it is time to let go of it. Who knows, someone might find a good use for it as what they always say, One person’s trash can be another one’s treasure. Start again with one room at a time. Make two piles: Donate / Garage Sale pile and the Trash pile. This exercise will free up some space in your house and gives you an opportunity to share your things to others or earn a little from the proceeds that you are going to get from your garage sale.

6. Organize. Once you are done cleaning and getting rid of things, then it is time to organize the ones that are left. You can sort items by function, by color or whatever will be an easier criterion for you to categorize stuff. Grab some storage boxes from thrift stores to put your things. Label them for easier identification when you need them.

Organizing closets can be included as one of the major tasks in your to-do list. It is time to put those winter clothes and outfits in storage area to make room for the new season outfits. Sort things and group similar items together like socks, blouses, accessories, etc. Try to use color-coding as you arrange your clothes. This will make it look cleaner and nicer and will make it easier also to look for items in your closet.

Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a clean home? With a little planning, patience and organization, you will surely have a home that is soothing to the eyes and conducive to healthy living as well. Spring is here so let us all start with our Spring Cleaning.

Classic and Sophisticated

Every time I see our living room sofa, I can’t help but to feel and get frustrated. Honestly, it’s old and worn out already because of many years use. My parents bought it at the time when we constructed our house in the middle of 80’s and it was not yet replaced since then. It was just re-upholstered in the late 90’s with a new cover and it was like that up to now.

After the re-painting done over the last week, I told mom that I wanted to buy a new sofa for us if not this year but soon. I may not afford the Horchow furniture collection, which is classic and sophisticated but I’ll try to get something similar and that my budget can afford. It’s on my wish list now and all I need to do is to save, save, save so I can buy that in the future.

I guess our house deserves something new (furniture and all) and I’ll do my best to get it.

5 Do's and Don'ts in Searching for a New Flat

There are lots of mistakes you can make when searching for a new flat. Keep the following list of Do’s and Don’ts in mind when renting a new apartment.

1. Don’t Go Over Your Budget

You’re always going to want more of something when you are looking at Greensboro apartments, whether it is more space, a better layout, or something a little more updated. The hard part is deciding which things are the most important to you and are actually realistic for your budget. It’s important to have a price in mind before looking for a new apartment—that way you don’t look at things you can’t afford.

2. Do Negotiate the Price

Just because the rent of an apartment is listed for a certain price does not mean that there is no wiggle room. You may be able to negotiate a better rate. Sometimes the landlord may also be willing to throw in incentives to get you to move in, such as a discount on the first month’s rent. You’ll never know what discounts you can get without asking.

Home Project: Re-painting the House

My mini house renovation just started today and I'm actually excited about it. It's been how many years already since my mom had our house re-painted and this year I told my mom that I'll be the one to shoulder the expenses on labor and materials. Of course, mom was very happy knowing that so immediately called our workers to do the job and like what I said it started today. My bedroom was almost finished today and I guess by tomorrow morning, we all can return my bed and other stuff.

Our house is a mess right now due to the work and I just hope that it will not take more than 1 week to have our house re-painted so I can redecorate once again. Since my mom and I are making our house more neat and presentable, I’m also contemplating of getting a new living room set and probably an outdoor dining set too. Hmmm.. let’s see if my budget will be enough for that.

Jazz Up Your Homes with Bi Fold Doors

I’ve been living with my mom in our house for many years now that was built 2 decades ago. It was still on its tip-top shape but I guess it also needs a make-over since the style is already outdate. If money will not be an issue, I also want to have it re-painted inside and out and that includes the roofing. I know it will require a substantial amount of money and hard labor but I’m praying that I can have it done before the year ends.

I’ve always dreamed of having my own house someday but I’m not sure if that dream will soon become a reality. My sister already had built their new house in Sydney and I’m so happy for her. It was both her and my BIL’s dream house and I reckon they love every minute staying their with their family.

How’d I wish to have a house like theirs, very spacious and neat. Her husband made it sure to put the best materials and furniture in the house. I can’t wait to see and visit their house when I come there for vacation.bi fold doors

Anyway, whilst going through some inspirations online, I can’t help myself to admire beautiful houses built so neatly. Went through the gallery of Clear Span and these houses with bi fold doors caught my attention as it not only can let the light and air come in generously but also made it more spacious when folded. Perfect when you entertain guests all the time in your home as you can easily open it up on the backyard for your barbeque time and more.

These doors fold in or fold out in the areas where you wanted it to be installed. It can also serve as a divider and can jazz up your homes, making it more functional.

Combating Air Pollution in Our Homes

The weather lately is not that good, it changed dramatically for the last few weeks. It started out so cold at the beginning of the year where we found ourselves wearing jackets when we go outside or even inside the house. There are even times when I have to put on socks for the cold temperature is making me chill and uncomfortable. We thought that weather will last for more weeks but as when February just came in, the heat has started to creep. Oh boy, we're already complaining how hot it was most especially outside.

I guess the weather makes a lot of people getting sick most especially the kids. My 8 yr old niece got sick for few days with colds and fever and her parents need to consult her doctor for medicines. The weather and the pollution are just some of the factors that makes us sick. The air that we breath everyday can also make us acquire diseases for there are allergens that are floating in the air.

Keeping our homes safe from these allergens can be minimized if not totally eradicate them. One of the many solutions that we can do is by getting air purifiers like those made by Rabbit Air. Molds, pet dander, odors and even cigarette smoke can be filtered this making the air in our house more safer to breathe.

House Maintenance

These past few days, mom is kinda busy checking for the things in the house that needs some repair. Our water pump is not working automatically for the last 5 months but we can still use it by manual mode to pump water in our reservoir (tank). We’ll have it replaced with a more durable one like those commercial pumps once it stops working already.

Aside from that, a technician came to the house to fix our La Germania stove. The other burner is not working for few weeks now and since it’s hard to cook with only 1 burner being used, mom had to call someone to fix it. It’s been years that we’ve been using that stove and due to water and oil spilling, rusts and dirt formed in the burner. Thankfully, the technician only billed us Php500 for the repair.

All I Want for Christmas

It's 32 more days and it's Christmas already. Are you starting to buy your Christmas presents already? I do, as I hate the Christmas rush where there are more people shopping and cramming to find gifts. If you also shop a little  bit late, chances are the items that you'll buy is already out of stock, so if I were you, start buying now.

I'm sure the Black Friday sale in the US will also be a good opportunity for shoppers to score a great deal. My twitter friends are getting super excited over the sale as they are shopping as well. I'll just wait for a friend's items that she will be selling and hope that I'll find nice bag (yes.. bag again!).

Aside from that, I planned on replacing our old and about to give up washing machine and electric fans and I promised my mom that we'll be buying them this December. I also wanted to have one of those lg tvs that I found online and with only $229.99 as a price, I'm getting tempted already.
LGHDTV
I'm sure it'll be more fun to watch my fave TV shows and movies using this 19" LCD HDTV. Maybe next year,  I can buy this already but for the meantime, this will goes to my wish list.

Bring the Sunlight into your Homes

I’m always looking forward to weekends for it means the time to relax and unwind together with the whole family. Spending time together doesn’t mean that we need to go out to the malls or take a vacation all the time for we all can bond together and have fun at the comfort of our house. It’s also less expensive than going to the mall where your wallets can be drained when your kids will ask you to be extra things that are not needed.

We can have movie time in the living room, play games on the computer, have a barbeque at the backyard, or just relax and chill at the gazebo or sunroom. Sunrooms are perfect place to hang out with family and even your friends. It can become a luxury place, an extension in your home, where you can all have the view of the backyard as glass is surrounding the walls. Sunlight can generously come inside the sunroom making you opt not to open your lights making you save even more.
