Ensuring complete privacy of your computer files can be tough, and we all know there are documents we do not want other people seeing, whether they are for legal matters or for other situations.

Whether you are concerned about keeping your computer files safe, faxing important documents, or guaranteeing privacy when uploading them on the Internet, here are a few tips to help you out.

Image via Flickr

Creating Back-up for Your Computer Files

Even if you have your own personal computer, your files may not be completely safe. Every time you leave your computer unattended, it gives someone else a chance to browse through your files. Even if you have your computer password-protected, if your computer crashes, you may never be able to retrieve your files.

That is why it is always a good idea to create a backup. While your computer, can crash and CD’s can scratch, you may want to use a flash drive when trying to keep your files private. A flash drive can easily be kept in your pocket so no one has access to it, and you can even password-protect it.

Managing Your Faxes

Many people have discovered that sending a fax to a regular fax machine, or even receiving one, is not a very reliable way to keep your files private, as you never know who will be on the receiving end.

Online faxing is becoming an increasingly popular way to send faxes, as all documents are password protected. Online faxing with Metrofax or with other high-rated and affordable sites is a great way to send your personal documents.

Uploading Files on the Internet

When you upload files to the internet, you always want to make sure that the site you are uploading to is secure. Generally, a site that begins with ‘https’ opposed to ‘http’ in your address bar is a secure site, but you cannot always use that to ensure that your files won’t be found.

Read a variety of reviews to see if anyone else has had problems with that particular site. You should also carefully read through the website’s terms of service to make sure that they have no rights to your files after you have uploaded them.

If you trust the site, you can even use this as a way to save your files as a backup since it will generally be password protected and you can reach your files anywhere with an Internet connection.

I guess most of us already have accounts on Facebook, twitter, Pinterest and other social networking sites. It’s a good medium to connect to different people, friends and even family members for personal or business reasons. Many are hooked and addicted over these sites and we can’t blame them for it’s a way to interact and communicate faster and effectively.

For physicians, the emergence of Doximity has given them a place where they can connect with their other colleagues. It’s a private network, where they can exchange secure messages, share private phone lists, back lines and pagers with each other. You can check out the public profile of many doctors like Jack Marshall MD, know more about their specialty, affiliation and other info. Doximity is available on the web, iPhone, and smart phones. Now, physicians have the reason to communicate quicker and discuss the latest treatment and other topics with each other.

Just last August 2011, I bought a new HP desktop for I want a bigger screen when I’m designing my digital scrapbooking kit. My laptop’s screen and speed can’t keep up with my designing needs so I decided to get a new desktop that I can use here at home.

I love HP brand so I bought the same brand in GH. Luckily, it was on sale and along with that I got a free speaker and HP printer. I must say that HP products are durable and performs well. Been using the printer since August and I’m quite surprised that it still has a toner up to now. When the time comes the ink will run out, I know I will get an original toner cartridges to maintain the performance of my printer. With the looks of it, I guess the printer is toner saver and I got my money’s worth already.

I’ve been online for the last 10 years now and I have to say that I have learned a lot, gained friends, shared some of my thoughts, experiences and thoughts through my blogs. It has given me so many advantages in knowing about certain products, other people’s blogs, great resource websites. I started my 1st blog in 2005 and it was on free blog hosting from bravejournal. I then made blogs using blogspot and then wordpress. My blogging really evolved and realized that getting my own domain is the best way to go too.

Before I ventured on getting my own domain, I read reviews, ask my friends for advice and even read tutorials online. Thanks to sites that offers web site hosting reviews for it was very helpful for me in choosing my webhost. I’ve been using Blue Host for a while now on this blog and I’m happy with their services.

If you are thinking of getting your own domain and web host, try to read reviews first so you can compare services of web host providers.

Networking one computer to another most often than not involves countless wires and cables. We may experience wires looping on each other and it’s also unsightly to see at some point. Though there are now computers going wireless in their connectivity, wires are still visible and I reckon we’ll be using them for many years more.

We can hide those wires under our carpet or but thanks to wire duct that can make our wires organized when we set it up on our homes or offices. Managing our wires are now much easier and I can say more pleasing to see.

Finally, I’m back to work after resting and doing some other stuff during the Holy Week. I know I’m still on holiday mode but need to work again. Apart from my small internet café business that I have, my other works simply obliges me to be in front of my computer doing some digital graphics and using the Internet.

To maximize my browsing pleasure, I’ve upgraded my Firefox Browser about couple of weeks ago and now, I’m using Firefox 4 which is much faster and has new features. I’ve been using Firefox for many years now since I stopped using IE. However, I use Chrome and Opera browsers too when I need to check some sites that look off or not working at FF.

The Internet is loaded with lots of information and lots of free stuff that we can use and I have to say that open source software helps when we could not afford to buy for sale software. Here are some of them that I stumbled online.

* VLC Player- This multi media player has the capability to play all different media files and convert or transcode a movie file to a different format.

*Anyone can compress a video much faster using Virtual Dub. You can also add various plugins to customize your videos and can even create a seamless video clip using this free software. For those that always dabble with videos this software can be a good help.

* X-Chat Basics – We use chat messengers to talk to our relatives and even clients to communicate and exchange thoughts and ideas. This IRC client has the ability to file transfer, drawing board and more.

* Free XVid Player- Another free video player that enables user to store videos, download and transfer xvid files. This player can also compress large videos that you can even save in your USB with the same good video quality.

I guess it’s not new to you that your identity can now be stolen. It’s pretty scary to know that identity can really happen especially these days when technology is on its surge. Credit cards can now be stolen and used, your paypal account can be hacked, your social networking account, sites or blogs can be accessed by internet hackers and more. Poor thing, we come to an age where technology is used in bad ways by crooks.

I had an interesting read a while ago and it’s about those Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) that are used and put on ID’s, credit cards, passports and other places to transmit different data. It can speed up transactions but the bad thing is that your data or identity can be stolen when some crook people or hackers try to make a rfid readers to get all your data. Wow, that is pretty scary and it’s really happening.

Since those things are happening already, rfid blocking wallets are invented to prevent those readers to read your data in your passports, credit cards etc. thus preventing identity theft. I hope more ways will be invented to stop those hackers from invading our privacy.

My niece who’s currently in college has long been wishing for a custom laptop so that she can bring it to school and anywhere where she has shoots. They have a desktop at home but since the processor and the memory needs an upgrade, she can’t work fast. She’s also been using my desktop but there are times that I get angry for there are programs that they accidentally removed. I also gave her an external hardrive as an early Christmas gift where she can put her files but she body needs the laptop.

I’m wishing that her parents can have an extra budget for that laptop so she can work with ease.
